We know choosing the right dog trainer can be overwhelming — here are answers to the questions we get most often from new clients.

How much do your training programs cost?

Pricing depends on the program and your dog’s specific needs. At K9 Professional, we do not offer single sessions. Instead, we build a custom training curriculum tailored to your dog’s unique requirements and your personal goals.

This personalized curriculum includes a series of sessions combined with structured homework and practice assignments — because lasting results come from consistent effort both during and between sessions. After Andrea evaluates your dog during the consultation, she will recommend the best training plan and pricing to help you achieve your desired outcomes.

How many sessions will my dog need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your dog’s behavior, your goals, and how consistently you practice at home. Since K9 Professional builds a custom curriculum tailored to your dog’s specific needs, some dogs may need fewer sessions, while others require a longer program.

Andrea will recommend the ideal number of sessions after your consultation, ensuring the plan fits your schedule and maximizes results. Remember, your commitment to practicing between sessions plays a huge role in how quickly your dog progresses.

Do you train aggressive or reactive dogs?

Yes. Andrea has extensive experience working with dogs that display fear, anxiety, or aggression. Every program begins with an assessment to identify triggers and create a safe, controlled approach to help the dog build confidence and trust.

Can you help with leash pulling and jumping?

Absolutely. These are among the most common issues we address. We’ll teach both you and your dog structured walking techniques and impulse control so walks become enjoyable instead of stressful.

What’s the difference between obedience training and behavior modification?

Obedience training focuses on commands like “sit,” “down,” “place,” and “come.” Behavior modification goes deeper — it’s for issues like aggression, fear, or anxiety that affect your dog’s overall behavior and mindset.

Do you use e-collars or prong collars?

We use tools responsibly, only when appropriate for the individual dog. Our training philosophy is based on balance and communication, not punishment. The goal is always a calm, confident dog — never one that’s fearful or shut down.

What should I bring to my first session?

Since all training sessions take place in your home or familiar environments, there’s no need to bring anything. Andrea comes to you, ready to work with your dog in the settings where they live and learn.

Will I have to practice between sessions?

Yes — consistency is key. Andrea will show you exactly what to practice between visits. The more you follow through at home, the faster your dog’s progress will be.

How soon can we start?

We typically schedule new clients within one to two weeks, depending on availability. You can reserve your first session by calling 973-800-8726 or submitting the contact form here.

Do you offer virtual training?

Yes. For clients outside New Jersey and Florida, or those who prefer training from home, we provide virtual sessions. The structure and results are the same — only the format changes.

What if my dog doesn’t improve?

Andrea’s methods are backed by over 20 years of experience, and she has never had a dog fail to improve — as long as the owner puts in the time, effort, and listens carefully to Andrea’s coaching. Success is true teamwork between trainer, owner, and dog. If challenges persist, we’ll adjust the program and support you until lasting results are achieved.

What ages do you work with?

We train dogs of all ages — from 8-week-old puppies learning structure to senior dogs overcoming long-term habits. It’s never too early or too late to start.

Are your programs guaranteed?

No ethical trainer can guarantee results, because dogs aren’t robots — but we do guarantee full commitment, expert guidance, and a proven 20-plus-year process that works when followed consistently.

Do you train service dogs or therapy dogs?

Yes. We provide foundational obedience training that supports service or therapy dog pathways. Andrea can help prepare your dog for advanced, specialized training needed to become a service animal.

Can family members join the sessions?

Yes! In fact, we encourage it. Everyone who interacts with the dog should learn consistent cues and handling techniques to reinforce positive behavior at home.

I had an amazing experience working with Andy at K-9 Professional! My dogs struggled with confidence and reactivity for quite a while, and I wasn’t seeing progress on my own. From the very first session, Andy zeroed in on the problem behaviors and explained what was happening in a way that made sense.

What really stood out was how practical the training was. Instead of sticking to a controlled environment, Andy used real-world settings so our dogs could learn how to respond in the moment. She was incredibly adept at finding just the right level of challenge — enough to stretch our pups’ comfort zone while still keeping it successful. We could see improvements almost immediately.

The K-9 Professionals Company overall was very easy to work with. Communication was clear and consistent, and scheduling was straightforward. One thing I really appreciated was that they sent video recaps of each session — it made practicing between appointments so much easier and helped me feel confident that I was doing the exercises correctly.

My dogs are noticeably more relaxed and more confident (as am I). I can now enjoy walking my dogs around town or at a park. I finally feel like we’re on the right path. I truly cannot recommend Andy and K-9 Professional enough!

Andi and John are true miracle workers. We started working with them when our year and a half old black lab just became a bit too much to handle. He had issues with walking on a leash, jumping, barking and reactivity towards strangers and other dogs. After a short few weeks, Hank was walking nicely on a leash by my side and learned how to calmly great people entering the home. Over the next months after that we started working out and about around strangers and other dogs and Hank became much more neutral in stressful environments. Now we no longer worry about bringing him out with us as we now know the proper ways to control stressful environments for him. I couldn't recommend them enough!

We are so thankful for K9 Professional and all Andrea and John have done for us with training our Doberman! We loved how they come into the home and witnessed all distractions first hand from day one to make sure that they are helping in all aspects of training. We started with them when Anubis was 3 months old and now at almost 10 months old we have officially graduated from the advanced training program! Not only do they train your dog with love but they also train you, support you and lift you up when you feel like you just aren’t getting it! From day one before any training session they were already available via text messages or phone calls whenever we had any questions. Highest recommendation for Andi at K9 Professional! Andi is an amazing trainer, not only of dogs but of people too. My dog Jack was very reactive, couldn’t walk him around other dogs without lunging, growling, and barking. I’ve worked with several trainers over the years and until I trained with Andi no one has ever been able to help me. This is not a board and train, she doesn’t train your dog and hand him back to you. She taught both me and Jack — really me! — how to handle stressful situations and gave me the skills I needed to teach Jack how to calmly be around other dogs. I can’t thank her enough!

Andi is an extraordinary professional canine trainer! She teaches you the art of communicating with your dog on and off leash while maintaining complete control. She shows you how to engage with your dog and have fun while establishing healthy boundaries. She shows you how to tap into your dog’s own skill set and passion which makes them excited to work and train. She is a master professor on turning dog owners into dog handlers. When you successfully complete Andi’s training program you will notice a significant level of respect your dog will have for you. There was NEVER a harsh word spoken or a heavy hand, all the training is done with warmth, positivity, and appreciation for your dog. My husband and I have four dogs and we recently completed two months of training with Andi….the difference in our dogs’ demeanor and our handling skills is REMARKABLE! Andi doesn’t just work on dogs, she works on owners, building trust and connection deepening the bond with your canine. Our four dogs have very different personalities and have come with their own slew of issues (2 rescues and 2 from breeders) ranging from aggression, trust problems, fear, over excitement, excessive barking, pack tension, jumping, being overly protective of the property, anxiety, jealousy, etc. You name it, our dogs had it. We felt like we were living in total chaos with no control. Andi taught us how to establish harmony in our pack, in our home, when having guests over, introducing our dogs to unfamiliar environments, crate anxiety, separation problems, pulling on the leash, recall, and negative reaction to our farm equipment and farm animals. You have a problem and Andi has a solution! Her approaches are innovative and fun, yet easy to apply when you put in the work and are consistent. You will see amazing life changing results. Our dogs are substantially happier and look to us for direction. We have become the handlers Andi told us we could be! Andi is encouraging, supportive, enthusiastic, direct, and goal oriented.
