To earn the Elite K9 Citizen certification, each dog must successfully demonstrate control, manners, and reliability across a series of real world behavior tests. These exercises are designed to evaluate how the dog performs under everyday distractions while remaining responsive to the handler.
The dog must remain calm and non reactive when approached by a friendly stranger without jumping, lunging, or excessive excitement.
The dog must walk politely on a leash without pulling, lagging, or attempting to lead the handler.
When called, the dog must immediately return to the handler from a reasonable distance, even with mild distractions present.
The dog must hold a sit position for a set duration while the handler steps away.
The dog must remain in a down position with calm stability until released by the handler.
The dog must wait calmly at doorways or gates and only proceed when released by the handler.
The dog must remain composed around common distractions such as people walking by, noises, or other dogs at a distance.
The dog must go to a designated spot (mat, platform, or bed) and remain there until released.
The dog must accept gentle handling (paws, collar, body touch) without resistance or anxiety.
The dog must demonstrate consistent attention to the handler, showing responsiveness to basic commands even in mildly distracting environments.
The dog must successfully complete all ten requirements during evaluation. This ensures that only dogs demonstrating consistent control, stability, and real-world reliability earn the Elite K9 Citizen designation.
